Summary
I've been doing freelance work for FSI for several years and continue to learn new skills and concepts with each additional project. My most recent project has been redesigning the financial partners' professional website. With this position, I was able to work with both partners, as well as the rest of the staff, in-person. The existing website was made using a financial web hosting service, which made things a little challenging at times. I had to work within the site's own CMS, which was not user-friendly. I had to remove all the old, unused files one-by-one in order to not exceed the site's data limit. They were not always easy to find. Also, certain parts of the template were not easily manipulatable through the CMS, and the tag names were not listed. Another issue that came up was with cross browser, cross platform testing. The site only allowed one computer to be logged into it at a time. But overall, the experience tested me and gave me extra practice with CSS.
Learning Points
- Learned how to manipulate objects using mostly CSS
- Learned more about the dynamics of communication (being in-person, in-office doesn't necessarily make things easier)
- Developed strategies for in-office communication
- Gained verbal experience talking with host's customer service department
- Learned how to compress and save files for web design
Testimonial
"I worked with Ashley over the course of a year as we published the first two issues of our company's Strategies magazine together. I found the experience of working with Ashley a very positive one. Her work is original and creative and well-organized. Ashley has a strong work ethic, and I found her to be completely reliable. Deadlines were always reached on-time and the work was done well. When changes needed to be made they were done quickly and professionally. I can give Ashley Hathaway my whole-hearted recommendation."
